Simply Focused!

This week, we made a trip to CookChildren’s Hospital near Fort Worth. We received a good report and a plan to help our daughter keep feeling better. There will still be some hard days mixed in with mostly good ones, but we’re grateful.

Moments like that remind me why I do what I do.

If you’ve watched the video on my About Us page, you’ve heard me talk about my friend Mark — how his loss changed my perspective on money and time. Sitting in that hospital waiting room with my wife and daughter brought it all back into focus. This is what matters.

I work on my own because I want to do real financial planning — the kind that’s more about life than spreadsheets. And that’s saying something, because I love a good spreadsheet. But when it comes to my daughter’s health, I want to be there. I don’t have to ask anyone’s permission. I can take my laptop, work from anywhere, and still serve my clients well.

My clients understand that. They value the flexible nature of my work. They respect the importance of family. They encourage me, they pray for us, and they would never expect me to be anywhere other than with my wife and daughter on a day like that.

That’s the beauty of being flexible and transparent with the people you serve. And the best part? My clients are just as transparent with me.

At Simply Human Advisors, we’re committed to #NoShameNoBlame financial planning — honest conversations about money and life. Because for most of us, it all circles back to the same thing: the people we love. There’s almost no limit to what we’d do for our kids or grandkids.

So, this is partly a thank you.
Thank you to my clients for understanding when I need to take a day.
Thank you for trusting me.
Thank you for letting me walk alongside you in your own story.

At the end of the day, the small group of people closest to us — family, friends, community — they’re the ones who matter most. I’m grateful to be present with them, and I’m grateful to be present with you, too.
